COVID-19 has been a challenge and a new lifestyle for everyone. It affects our everyday lives and it is also affecting our new school year. Sparta High School has their school online and a lot of the students would much rather be in school. This is understandable because for your average public school student this is very new and can be difficult. I personally have mixed feelings about this new way of school. I like the one-hour lunch break because it gives me an opportunity to get a workout during the day which as an athlete is very beneficial. At the same time have two one-hour classes in a row is a long time to sit at your computer for. I would also much rather be in school with all my friends socializing. At the same time though, ending earlier in the day is also very nice. Ultimately, I would rather be in school, because I can see my friends and it is a much better learning environment. After thinking about this for myself, I was curious to see what my friends and fellow students would think, so I asked them. In case students don't want their names to be mentioned I will be leaving their names out. Of the 13 people that I asked 11 of them said that they would much rather be in school. Most of the reasons were that it is harder to learn online. This makes a lot of sense because we are learning in a whole new way and it is difficult for the students and teachers at times. There are a lot more distractions for students at their homes because they could have younger siblings and parents who are working from home. It is also difficult to learn this way because it is way easier to get one on one help with your teacher in the school and can easily show them what you're struggling on in person. Another thing that is difficult with online school is that you can't socialize with your classmates. This is also challenging for teachers because this makes it harder for them to learn about their students and be able to connect with them and learn about them. This can also be very hard for new students because it would make it very difficult for them to meet other students and make friends. The two people that like online school, said that they liked getting out earlier, which I mentioned before. This is different for everyone and it is a change that might continue to affect us in the future. What do you think about this, and how do you feel about it?
