Do Students Prefer Virtual or In-Person Learning More? - Courtney Askin

Covid-19 has challenged school districts with the difficult decision of weather or not to reopen. Hybrid learning, A-B days, and all virtual are just some of the ways that schools have decided to go about this. Students seem to have a wide variety of opinions on this topic, so I conducted a survey of two different schools asking the question Do you prefer in-person learning with the Covid-19 restrictions or all virtual?. The students in school A currently attend an all-virtual school district, and students in school B currently attend their school in-person every day.

In the survey conducted, 20 kids answered the question from each school. The data I gathered showed an overwhelming percentage of students preference of in-person schooling from school B (80%). In this survey, students from school B are required to wear masks all day, sit behind shields, and eat lunch with seats in-between them, yet they still choose this over going back to online classes. Students in School A, however, had more mixed opinions. 39% chose virtual, but in-person was still the more popular choice with a majority of votes. Students do not have the power themselves to choose what their school district decides, but it was interesting to conduct this survey and see what everyone prefers.
No matter where you attend school or what grade you are in, school looks different for everyone this year. As long as we stay connected as a community and stay strong, we will all get through this difficult time.
