This month for the blog post assignment I decided to do a diary formatted entry. Creative writing is a non-traditional writing format or fiction usually so I decided that the diary format would be a good way to talk about the transition back to all virtual school.
Dear Diary,
A few days ago it was announced that we would be transitioning back to an all-virtual school day for all the kids in the Sparta school district. I hadn't checked my emails when the day began so I had no idea until teachers started talking about it in class. Most people were really happy with the option to go back to school, even with hybrid options so this was a bummer. Covid-19 has gotten significantly worse not only in the country recently but also in New Jersey specifically.
Back in July, before school started, I was given the option to go back to school hybrid or all virtual. Both my siblings have learning disabilities, so with hybrid as an option, that was the best thing for them. Even though it would definitely increase their exposure to the virus. My brother and I also had sports at the beginning of the year. My brother will continue to have them all through winter as well, so we were also making the chances of exposure greater and greater. My parents decided it would be best for me to go all virtual until we had a chance to reevaluate our decision in December.
When the Covid numbers in the school rose and everyone was all virtual even before the school year began it was annoying but my school year was still the same at the beginning. This change didn't really affect me but I know that it was annoying for a lot of my friends and classmates who were looking forward to going back to school, especially after last year ended all virtual. Hybrid learning these past few weeks has been working, I feel like, and I was looking forward to coming back soon as I don't like virtual learning that much. I don't hate it and I don’t think it's awful but in-person has always been better with both learning and being able to see people more.
New Jersey’s covid cases are on the rise yet again with the rest of the country and it's very disappointing to hear. It’s not a great situation to be in for school but I also know it's necessary. The loss of life during this pandemic has been harrowing, not to mention the other effects covid can have on a family. It is very disappointing to go back to all virtual and miss the date that I would have gotten to go back to school, but I’m ok with that as long as it is safer. I think it's very logical to go back to all virtual. So diary, though it's not exactly good news I believe it's necessary and I’m definitely willing to follow the new schedule laid out for us despite the disappointment.
Sincerely,
Annika Noel

Going back to all virtual learning is a hard blow, because even though hybrid was hard - it was working. Virtual will also work, but nothing is the same as being together. Fingers crossed that we get to be together in school sometime in the spring!
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate, I think we all can. This virtual learning is so odd. I hope things go back to normal soon.
ReplyDeleteGoing back virtual has its pros and cons but think it was a necessary decision. I also love the diary style you did!
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said! I especially agree when you said how virtual learning is positive in some ways but negative in other ways!
ReplyDeleteI love how you wrote like you were writing in a diary and I agree with the pros and cons to virtual learning.
ReplyDeleteI loved the format of your blog post and I like how you included the pros and cons of virtual learning. We're so focused on the negative right now, it's good to look at the bright side.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the "So diary" in the last line haha, but this is for sure really relatable.
