The most underrated heroes of this roller coaster of a year are teachers. They work all day grading papers, teaching in a different environment, and still have to go home and manage the homefront. Changing everything they ever knew and having to adjust to every possible scenario, teachers as well as students, but especially teachers are struggling and need our support more than ever.

Every day at least one of my teachers have internet troubles, they either can't hear or can't present, they can't do their job effectively. Or even worse they can't see anybody's faces, sadly they are talking to a screen for at least four hours a day with little to no response. Constantly wondering if anyone is even listening to them or doing the work. At least in school, they can see if a student needs help or can communicate to them easily, yet online we send emails that never clarify a question.

How are teachers supposed to get through to students when there is a screen blocking them? Personally, I have friends who's parents are teachers and say they stress all the time. They have to be innovative, some choose the easy route and show videos with documents anyone can search up online, but the best teachers are the ones who listen to their students in the class, have discussions, and put us into breakout groups because we actually learn something. To all the teachers who haven't given up yet, we thank you. You might not be an essential worker, but you are essential to the students.

Teachers deserve more appreciation and recognition for everything they have had to put up with this year. No one knows how much grief and frustration occurs in one day for you guys, but we appreciate you for everything and hopefully, next year will have better plans in store for all of us!

  1. I do appreciate this post. The last year has been one of the most stressful for teachers. I am so thankful we can still work, but also so sad that we can't do our job the regular way. I'm praying we're back in September, 2021!
