Hero Journey- Fred Claus- By Caroline Mastandrea

Fred Clause is a very known but underrated Christmas movie. Although many would not call Fred a hero, he steps up in a time of crisis (although he did create it) and was able to save Christmas.

Call to Action- The call to action would be at the end of the Movie when Fred flies back to the North pole to find his brother (Santa) cannot deliver gifts this year. He takes the news and decides to be the one to save Christmas and deliver the gifts, while also instructing the elves to finish making their gifts for the year.

Mento/ Helper- The Mentor in this movie would be Santa Claus, giving his brother advice and being Saintly. The helper is Willie, who accompanies Fred on his ride around the world to deliver Christmas gifts. He directs him and even teaches him how to fly the sleigh.

Challenges- When Clyde Northcut turns off the power at the North Pole, the elves can't tell Fred where he is going. This is a huge setback and makes it nearly impossible to deliver the gifts. Fred and Willie are able to use a map until Santa could get Clyde to start up the Power.

Return- The elves didn't know if Fred made it because they lost contact. This made his return to the North Pole that much more exciting. On top of that His return to his actual home, with his Girlfriend, is made special when he then takes her to Paris on Santas Sleigh.

  1. I haven't seen this movie, but it's really cool how even though some wouldn't say he's a hero, Fred's story lines up to the hero journey :)
