Q and A with Mason By: Mason Munier

Q: When do you feel most free?

A: I feel the most free when I am laughing and having a good time with my friends. This summer I spent weekends with my friends at the beach getting thrown around in the ocean by the waves, getting really bad sunburn, blasting music and screaming songs at the top of our lungs. Times like this is when I feel the most free because I'm living in the moment and not worrying about anything else going on in the world.

Q: What kind of parent do you think you'll be?

A: At this age I feel it's almost impossible for me to know what kind of parent I will be when I'm older. I want to be strict with my kids so they are able to learn important lessons and be respectful and disciplined. I also want to be very open and honest with them so they know they can come to me with anything. I want to raise my kids the way I was raised and be the kind of parent I was lucky enough to have growing up.

Q: What is something you could not live without?

A: I defiantly could not live without my family. Normally with our families crazy schedules we aren't able to spend a ton of time together because we are all running around in opposite directions. However, because of the pandemic this year, we were able to spend a ton of time together and get even closer then we were before. My family is all very close and it's very nice to be able to share a bond like that with the people you love.

Q: What is the difference of living and existing?

A: I believe living is waking up and making the most out of the day while existing is just waking up and going through the motions everyday. If you exist you are of course living but when your'e living you're doing everything with purpose and giving your all into this life. It's important to wake up everyday with a purpose and not waste our days just being here going through the motions.

Q: If you could have one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: The one food I would love to have for the rest of my life would be any dessert from Duffers. Duffers is a restaurant in Wildwood NJ and they have THE BEST desserts ever! It would be a hard decision between the waffles and ice cream or their brownie, nutella and strawberry stack.

Q:  Do you have any pet peeves?

A: This may seem odd but my only pet peeve is mittens. Why would anyone want their fingers to be trapped inside a furry glove that covers their whole hand?? I understand how gloves are useful because they allow for your fingers to move and still be used but when wearing mittens it's like your hands are trapped in a fuzzy sock.

Q: Tell us about an early childhood memory

A: A very early memory I have is when me and Rylee used to take ballet classes. I remember it was in a small room with a lot of girls for a couple hours a week. These couple hours felt like years for us because we are not at all dancers.

Q: Do you have a any superstitions?

A: I have many superstitions especially when it comes to sports. For softball I have to chew gum at every at bat and always make sure to wear my headband in the field. For basketball I make sure to spit my gum out right before the start of the game and listen to the same song before each important game. If I have a bad game I make sure to change my socks or hair tie before playing again so I can get rid of the bad luck and bad energy.

Q: What on earth is the most beautiful to you?

A: The most beautiful thing on earth to me is sunrises and sunsets. The sky is full of the prettiest colors and at that moment in time everything is quiet and peaceful. You spend a lot of time waiting for the sun to be in the perfect spot and them it only last a couple minutes. But these couple minutes are so worth the wait.

Q: Which is worse, failing or never trying?

A: I think that never trying is worse then failing. Some people would rather never try something simply because of the fear that they can potentially fail. However, if you don't fail here and there you can never learn or improve. Nobody likes to fail but it's often these times when we become stronger because we are able to learn from our mistakes.

Q: What is a weird experience you're thankful for?

A: During quarantine my family was looking for a project we could take on and so we decided to get chickens. Me, Rylee, my dad and my little sister Avery built the coop and prepared everything. My mom isn't too fond of chickens and farm animals so she was just there for emotional support. I never thought I would like chickens but they are kinda cool to have around and to be able to collect eggs everyday from them.
