Unpopular Opinion: I Don't Like Rap Music By: Miranda Smith

Rap music has become such a big part of today's society. It's all over today's hits radios and are some of the most popular songs listened to by our generation. Unlike many people, I'm not a fan of rap music. There are some raps songs that I enjoy, and mostly because of the words and meaning behind it. Otherwise, I'm rather picky about that type of music. I feel like rap is a very hype style of music and can sometimes be pump up songs, but I have Hip Hop music for that, which is different! Hip Hop has this stylistic tune and beat and a lot of the time, includes notes. I find it different and more enjoying to listen to compared to words that fly by really fast in a monotone manner. Also, when it comes to music, I am really not a picky person. I enjoy listening to almost all types of music. Rock, pop, hip hop, jazz, Broadway, folk, acoustic and a lot of the styles out there. But when it comes to rap, I can only listen to like two songs and I'm done.

According to Spotify, here are ten of the top 100 rap songs right now in 2021:

- Up by Cardi B
- Back in Blood by Pooh Shiesty, Lil Dunk
- Best Friend by Saweetie, Doja Cat
- ZAZA by 6ix9ine
- Honky Tonk by Barlito, Popp Hunna
- Calling my Phone by Lil Tjay, 6lack
- Cry Baby by Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby
- Clouds by NF
- Go Baby by BRS Kash, DaBaby, City Girls
- Finesse Out The Gang Way

Out of all of these songs, I only know one of them and it's from a TikTok. I don't judge people who like rap music and listen to it, but it's clearly not my thing.

One rap song I do know I like, and it isn't even fully a rap song, is Same Love by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis (ft. Mary Lambert). If you havn't heard it before I highly suggest listening to it! I also really like the song This is America by Childish Gambino. That is also another super powerful song and music video as well.  Well since these are the only rap songs I can think of right now that I really like, I think my opinion has been made clear. Rap music isn't for me.
