Unpopular Opinion: Thanksgiving is the Best Holiday, Not Christmas
By: Sofia Ilardi
Introduction:
Almost every kid will say Christmas is their favorite holiday because of the gifts, snow, and no school. However, Thanksgiving is really superior to Christmas. Don't get me wrong, Christmas is amazing, but Thanksgiving takes the cake. Most people find Thanksgiving as the holiday before Christmas, and some people immediately skip to Christmas after Halloween. When shopping in a store in November, there are only Christmas decorations, but what about the holiday where you are supposed to be thankful for what you have, not wishing for things you want. Today, I will be going through a few reasons as to why Thanksgiving is superior to Christmas.
Reason 1: The Food
Christmas food is really good, but Thanksgiving is an all-out feast. Some people prefer the sides, while others enjoy the turkey best, but the key is that they complement each other. Turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, rolls, and gravy are just some of the essentials. No other day of the year can compete with the delicious variety of food that is served on Thanksgiving. Almost every family is sent home with leftovers that still taste great in the following days.
Reason 2: Family
Thanksgiving, just like Christmas, is a day that is meant to be spent with your loved ones. I find Thanksgiving to be way more relaxed for everybody, and there is not as much stress. Overall, both Christmas and Thanksgiving have the same purpose of spending time with family.
Reason 3: Football
Football is always associated with Thanksgiving, as there are 3 games played throughout the day every year. There's nothing better than eating all day and watching football with the family. After eating, my family always gathers around the T.V and watches the game, and just has a good time. The only sport on during Christmas is basketball, and it's just not as entertaining for most people.
Reason 4: The Weather
Thanksgiving always lands on the fourth Thursday of November which is during the fall. Fall provides the perfect balance between hot and cold weather. The humidity is gone, and it's not frigid outside just yet which allows for people to hang out outside if there is no rain. During Christmas, however, families will always have to stay inside due to cold temperatures. Having a white Christmas is nice, but it doesn't happen too often. Overall, the fall is very consistent and provides nice scenery to celebrate Thanksgiving day.
Conclusion:
The list of reasons why Thanksgiving is the best could go on forever. There really is nothing not to like about this holiday when the weather is nice, the food is good, and you're enjoying family. Thanksgiving is the real start to the holiday spirit and season with kids enjoying a nice 4 day weekend. Let's also not forget the meaning of Thanksgiving is to reflect on what you have been given and celebrating the first harvest of the new world. Overall, Thanksgiving is just a well-rounded holiday that perfectly combines a true meaning and fitting celebration to go along with it.

I have to say that I do love Thanksgiving, but Christmas still is my favorite. I don't know what it is about it, maybe the built-up excitement that Christmas brings for me? I don't know, but I do love Thanksgiving because of family and of course the food!
ReplyDeleteThanksgiving food is definitely amazing, but I like the Christmas vibe better. I just like spending time with family so either holiday is great :)
